1 Day (7hrs) Course

This 6-hour qualification provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse. They will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

This is our most popular course and suits a wide variety of roles giving real understanding and practical skills to deal with Mental Health issues.

This course is excellent for anyone responsible for staff & freelancers working in organisations.

*candidates who successfully complete this course can progress to the Level 3 Supervising First Aid for Mental Health Award

Course Specification

This 1 day course covers the content of the Level 1 course but also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and covers ways in which a positive mental health culture can be supported within a workplace.

Duration
The qualification has 6 assigned guided learning hours (GLH) and 7 hours total qualification time. Ideally, the course should be run in one day, but must be completed within 3 weeks of starting the course, with each training session a minimum of two hours.

Syllabus
A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including:
• What is First Aid for Mental Health?
• Identifying mental health conditions
• Providing advice and starting a conversation
• Stress
• Mental health conditions
• Drugs and alcohol
• First Aid for Mental Health action plan
• First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace

Numbers
A maximum of 16 students are allowed on the course and must be a minimum of 14 years of age. A certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment.

Assessment
A range of methods are used, including practical and questioning (open and multiple-choice).

Certification
A Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. There is no expiry of the qualification, but annual refresher training is recommended.

We know not everyone can travel to Cumbria so this online course contains the same content as our Face to Face courses. The course starts with an interactive 2hr webinar. Participants then have 3 days to complete approx 4 hrs of home learning before a final 2hr session & optional assessment on Tuesday 27th April.
